The Pitlock Principle

The Pitlock Principle
The Pitlock Principle – how mechanical bike security works
When it comes to protecting their bike, most people think of frame locks or GPS trackers. But many thefts start somewhere else – at the wheels, the seatpost or with accessories that can be removed in seconds. This is where Pitlock comes in. A mechanical system that protects reliably, works without electronics and blends in discreetly with your bike.
More than just a lock – the coded Pitlock system
At the core of the system is the coded nut – a precisely CNC-machined stainless steel part that can only be opened with the matching Pit key. Each code is unique. There are currently more than 1000 different code variants in use. That means: your Pitlock is not just clever, it is truly individual.
Double protection – what happens inside counts
Pitlock relies on a dual locking mechanism that has proven itself in everyday use:
- The coded nut is secured by a special spring washer that automatically locks when closed.
- A conical security ring surrounds the nut with precision. Only the original Pit key fits between the parts, with just the right amount of pressure.
Additional elements such as a teflon disc prevent cold welding of the metal parts. The pressure disc allows the security ring to spin freely if force is applied from the outside – making pliers or leverage tools ineffective.
A bit like a childproof medicine cap
To unlock the system, the Pit key must be pressed in. Only then does the spring washer release the coded nut, allowing it to turn. It is a simple but effective idea, similar to childproof lids on medicine bottles – press, then turn.
Maintenance-free, weather-resistant and reusable
Pitlock works mechanically. No batteries, no app, no online connection. The components are made of stainless steel, are built to last and handle all kinds of weather. And if you ever lose your key? No problem. Your personal code card lets you order a replacement anytime.
Conclusion: secure where it matters
Pitlock protects exactly the parts of your bike that are often overlooked – wheels, seatpost, accessories. The system is modular and works with quick releases, thru axles, solid axles and more. And the best part: all bikes in the same household can be set up with the same code. One key fits all.
Mechanical. Clever. Secure. That is Pitlock.
