Find the right Pitlock set for your bike

Find the right Pitlock set for your bike
Find the right Pitlock set for your bike
If you want to secure your bike with a Pitlock set, there are a few things to consider first. Depending on the components and axle types used on your bike, the right set may vary.
This article gives you an overview of what matters – and how to quickly figure out which Pitlock setup fits your bike.
1. Front wheel: Quick release or thru axle?
Start by checking how your front wheel is mounted:
Quick release
If your front wheel uses a quick release, we need to know the clamping width – that’s the distance between the outer faces of the dropouts on the fork.
Best to measure with the wheel removed.
Thru axle
In this case, the total axle length is key – including the parts that sit inside the frame.
Because thru axles are screwed in rather than clamped, full length is essential.
Recessed or angled dropouts
Some thru axles sit against angled or recessed dropout surfaces instead of flat ones. In such cases, we include a matching conical washer – used in sets like Set 26 or Set 27.
Example:
An axle might be listed as 164 mm by the manufacturer (measured below the cone). Including the washer, the total length is 170 mm – and that’s the number that counts for us.
2. Seat tube: Outer diameter is what matters
To secure your saddle, we need the outer diameter of the seat tube – the frame tube into which the seatpost is inserted.
A caliper will give you an exact number, but a ruler can be enough for orientation.
Important: Our seatpost clamps only work with parallel, flat-sided designs.
If your clamp has a different shape, please use the original Pitlock seatpost clamp.
3. Stem security
Many standard sets include a lock for a typical Ahead stem with a star nut. This system does not work with elevated or adjustable stems or with spacer stacks.
Doesn’t fit?
In that case, a Pitstopper might be the better choice. To use it, we only need the width of the hex bolt you want to secure (e.g. 4 mm Allen key).
Pitstoppers are available in 4 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm sizes.
They work not just on bikes, but on any hex bolt you want to protect. We always enjoy seeing your creative use cases!
Conclusion: One step closer to the perfect fit
Once you've checked the basics, we can help you find the right set – secure, well-designed and long-lasting.
