Can Pitlock be cracked? Sure!

Can Pitlock be cracked? Sure!
But that’s only part of the truth. And honestly, it’s not really surprising.
Anything that can be unscrewed, taken apart or separated can, in theory, be cracked.
If someone comes equipped with a cordless angle grinder and enough criminal energy, they’ll eventually succeed.
No matter what system you use.
Why Pitlock still makes sense
Pitlock was never designed to be an unbreakable security system.
And we never claimed it is.
What Pitlock offers is a clear advantage in terms of time – especially when you park your bike in public spaces or in front of a store.
Anyone looking for easy targets like quick-release wheels or saddle clamps will most likely just walk past a properly secured Pitlock bike.
A thief doesn’t have time.
The quicker a part can be removed, the better for them – and the worse for you.
The idea: A moment in front of Karstadt in Berlin
The idea for Pitlock was born when our founder Peter Busse witnessed someone in the early 90s locking their bike with two heavy U-locks – but still taking the saddle into the store.
Why?
Because the saddle was mounted with a quick-release clamp.
And if you want to keep it, you better take it with you.
That’s when the idea came up to develop a compact, clever and coded solution. Something that protects these vulnerable parts. Easy to install, but effective.
Sure, brute force always works
Yes, you can crack a Pitlock system – with the right tools, enough time, and ideally no one watching.
But in reality, that’s extremely unlikely.
At least as long as your bike isn’t left unattended in public for days.
Why Pitlock still protects in the real world:
- Our axles are made from high-quality, durable materials
- The coded nut can only be opened with the matching key
- Most attacks fail because there’s no access point for tools
- And compared to an unsecured bike next to yours, you’re almost always better off

Installation: Do it right
One final note:
Pitlock only works reliably if it’s installed correctly.
The installation manual is not optional.
It’s a key part of the system.
If mounted incorrectly, even the best product can’t help.
If you want to try Pitlock for yourself, ask your trusted bike dealer. Or check out our shop and test it on your own bike. Just make sure to measure correctly first.
